Not Just Any Ferry

Congratulations to jo(e), FA, and Joy--you know a ferry when you see one! Above, the view of lower Manhattan and Brooklyn from said ferry, returning from Staten Island on a day of thunderstorms and roiling clouds. Now imagine the wind, fierce against your face as we speed toward the city.
Below, a closer look at the Brooklyn waterfront, with bridge, clouds, and barges:

One of my earliest memories is riding the Staten Island Ferry with my siblings and my Dad. We'd gotten pinwheels, and we stood at the back and watched the wind blow them crazily.
That's a nice memory. According to family lore, my parents' first date, way back in early forties, was a ride on the Staten Island Ferry.
Oh, those pictures make me miss NYC.
I always wondered what it would be like to commute every day from Staten Island. Could that ferry ride ever lose its charm?
Riding the Staten Island Ferry is one of the things I try to do every time I visit New York. There's something so cool about approaching the city from the water. But the first time I did it after 9/11, it took some doing to look at the changed skyline and not be overwhelmed with sadness.
Terry B: Yes, it is a different skyline now. Thanks for the comment.
